the latest in the lois-gets-her-art-stolen chronicles: a chilean publisher has decided to take this artwork, drag it through photoshop hell, and use it as a cover for this book, obviously without permission or compensation of any kind. not only is it copyright infringement but making book covers this ugly should be outlawed too.
anyways, i went through this before when i found my art printed on sweaters in south korea. i talked to a few different lawyers at the time, who told me that i needed a lawyer in the actual country that the theft was taking place.
The thief is Puerto de Escape in Chile (a publisher) and i intend to go after them. however, i need someone who is familiar with chilean law and ideally could hook me up with a lawyer in chile to help me out and give advice. i could also use advice from anyone familiar with these situations and how they can be resolved. if you guys could spread the word and e-mail me at loishh@gmail.com with any information, that would help me SO much! thanks a ton for reading!!

I couldn’t find a single hotel with vacancy, unbelievable, and the shelters I went to had room, but I couldn’t bring my cat inside and I won’t leave him in the car overnight. I’ve never stayed overnight in El Paso and I can see why. Damn it.*sigh* I just can’t believe how much trouble I got myself into tonight.
I just called my mother in hopes that she answers me. If not, I don’t even know what I’m going to do.

My name is Sam, I’m a 15 year old female-to-male trans person and things at my house aren’t good at all, I’m being physically and emotionally abused by my mother, I have been strangled and recorded naked because my mom wanted to prove that I was female. I’ve been suffering from clinical depression, anxiety disorder, sleep disorder and I’m currently on medication for all of them. I self-harm and I’m trying to stop, I’ve been to the mental hospital twice this year. I desperately need to get out of my home because things are getting worse between me and my mother and I don’t think I’ll last very long if I’m in here any longer. I really need to get out of here, I really really hate to ask for money, but I really need it and I’m so sorry if I’m asking a lot.

Take a look at the first picture. more than a 1000 people turned up outside and blocked the gates of the Dail (Irish parliament) tonight to protest against the government’s refusal to grant people access to abortion.
Look at the second picture. RTE news went to the other side of the parliament where there was no one because they don’t want to report a prochoice event in their right-wing media.
This is a small country, it is a very big deal that that many people blocked entry into the parliament tonight. the media had a duty to report this and they didn’t, they decided to skew the whole thing by making it seem like nobody turned up. Scumbags. I know the government controls the media but this is just….. ugh SCUMBAGS.

We get a lot of questions from women who want to wear men’s suits, but have a hard time with the fitting. Some women have bodies that work decently with menswear, but the honest truth is that it’s hard to fit a woman’s body into a men’s suit - they’re very differently shaped, and the suit is an unforgiving garment. I usually recommend that women and trans folks with feminine bodies just go custom, but that can obviously be prohibitively expensive.
This cool Kickstarter project, Saint Harridan, aims to change that. Their goal is to produce reasonably-priced suiting, shirts and ties for people with womanly bodies but masculine fashion senses. I’m not aware of any off-the-rack options for these folks, and I think it’d be a big step forward. A pledge of just $540 gets you a suit if they’re produced, and that strikes me as a worthwhile investment. Good luck, Saint Harridan!

Hi guys-
If you’re reading this from an area affected by Hurricane Sandy, I hope you and your family are okay and that the damage you’ve suffered hasn’t been too bad.In the light of the disastrous state of Staten Island, Breezy Point, and the Jersey Shore, I know everyone in the affected areas is having one hell of a time and that many are still without power and I apologize for what I’m about to ask.
NYC Care and Control (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island centers) have been inundated with animals since Sandy hit. They’re at critical mass and will soon be forced to euthanize perfectly adoptable pets, simply due to overcrowding. While I can’t definitely say either way, I’m sure many shelters along the Jersey Shore are facing a similarly awful situation.
If you’re able to, please please consider adopting or fostering a cat, kitten, dog, or puppy. These are animals who deserve a shot at life, regardless of what their circumstances may have been. Many of the animals are still babies, and would love a home —- even a temporary one.

So….I’ll try to sum up what’s happening here. In 2008, I designed and modeled a robot girl for a college assignment. I posted them on DeviantArt as I always do, and since then I’ve gotten quite a few people asking if they can model it as well. I always tell them sure, as long as I’m credited with the design. I failed to put my name/info on the image though, so it has been spread around the internet and some people have modeled it without my permission (just for the record you don’t have to sign something for it to be protected by copyright). They usually find out who made it later and gladly credit me. So I don’t mind!
Until someone tries to sell it.
Fast forward from 2008 to now. I find out that someone has been selling a model of my design on Turbosquid since March of this year, and it has made thousands of dollars in profit. I’m naturally very upset about this, so I report the infringement to Turbosquid. At first they seemed fairly courteous, but then I wake up today and find them basically asking me to let him keep selling the model as long as he credits me. Are you kidding? After making thousands of dollars? Note that Turbosquid takes a 60% commission of profits by default, so they likely made even more money than the seller did from my design.
They tried to appeal to pity by talking about how hard he worked on creating the model from my design. HI! I DID THAT TOO!
I just can’t believe Turbosquid is taking the side of the infringer and trying to ignore the fact that they both made thousands of dollars off my IP without my permission. The minimum amount of money made is $2,481.00. I base that on how many reviews the model had, which you can only do if you buy it. However, this doesn’t include any purchases made that weren’t given reviews.
I think it goes without saying that the profits belong to me. It is not right for a guy in another country to steal my design and make thousands from it while I struggle to make ends meet. I have never made a penny off of that character design. To think that Turbosquid considers it fair for me to make nothing off my design while they made thousands is just unbelievable.
PLEASE reblog this. I am an amateur artist. I am not famous. I spent $130,000 to go to art college and haven’t found a full-time job since. My only job is the freelance I do from home. I am not Disney. I can’t afford to have my designs stolen for profit. I am hopeful that with enough exposure of this, Turbosquid will suddenly find the ethics they dropped on the floor somewhere. If this can happen to me, it can happen to you.
Thieves are among the shittiest of people. Don’t let this kid get away with it, Internet.
